New Features For The Busiest Time For Appstores

Like Santa’s elves our development team has been hard at work,
To bring you even more data, and great features without a quirk,
We’ve got app details galore and even more stores,
And we hope you’ll think they’re a great perk!

Hi Everyone

Merry Christmas and happy holidays.  There’s a stack of new things we’ve a launch in the last few weeks, including adding multiple store accounts to a single App Annie account, so it’s time to quickly bring you up to speed before we all get bombarded by millions of new device activations, app downloads, installs as well as a heavier load on customer support.

Expanded Feature Tracking

iTunes had a couple of updates recently, and one of the new things that appeared was even more sections in which your app can be Featured.

These extra sections appear under the “Quicklinks” menu on the top right, and can be different depending on your Store’s country selection (you can change this in the bottom right in iTunes).

For example, if you’re browsing around in Games, there are lots of new sections like Big-Name Games, Galactic Games and Word Battle Games, also in the Australian store, you’ll notice sections like Made In Australia, and Discover Australia, which don’t exist in the other Stores.

Unless you’ve got dragonfly eyes, all these new sections means that you have even more of a reason to keep watch on our Feature tracking, which lists all the different sections and Stores that an app is featured in on iTunes.

Remember, you can see the features for any app in the app store, not just your own apps.

Top Charts updating relative to the country’s timezone

As apps are a global business, you often want to know how your apps are performing in different markets, and comparing different markets very often means dealing with different timezones.

To make this easier for you, we’ve just added a timezone option in user settings, as well as adding a timestamp to all Store Stats top charts (iPhone and iPad are live today, Google Play will be live in a day or so) so that it’s immediately clear when the data you’re looking at was collected, relative to both the country of origin, and your local time.

It’s also worth noting that we collect data at different times of the day, depending on the country, rather than doing a single ‘global’ update.  Each country’s rankings are updated at approximately 12 midnight, and then again at 8am.

More Countries for Google Play

The Google Play app store doesn’t allow you to configure your country of origin in the same way as iTunes does.  Google changes the Store’s appearance and the apps displayed based on your IP address, so it can be extremely difficult to know what’s going on at a global level without App Annie.

To this end, we’ve added even more countries to our Google Play top charts, so now you can accurately see if your app is moving up the rankings in…

  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Israel
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Portugal
  • Romania

That brings the grand total to 44 different countries tracked, all of which you can access from the “…more countries” link.

Even More App Details

There’s a lot to know about a single app.  And our Store Stats App Database, which catalogues almost 1,400,000 apps has been further expanded to include a stack of new tidbits such as:

For Google Play:

  • App video trailer
  • App cover image
  • Top Publishers indicator
  • Link to the publisher’s website
  • Publisher’s support email
  • More apps by this publisher
  • Apps the customer also installed
  • Apps the customer also viewed
  • App’s permissions requirements

For iTunes:

  • Publisher Contact link
  • Support Contact link
  • Application Licence Agreement link
  • Screenshots for universal apps for both iPhone and iPad
  • Which OS an app supports
  • Content Rating
  • Games Center support
  • What’s new in the current version
  • Apps the customer also bought

So there you go!  I hope you enjoy the toys… and keep an eye out underneath the tree as there’s a couple of extra things that we might be able to sneak in before Christmas morning.

… and don’t forget, iTunes Connect will be closed over Christmas.

Have a great holiday, and feel free to leave a comment or send an email to if you have any questions.
